STEP 1: Treat The Lice Sufferer…First and Foremost!

If you are suffering from lice, you'll probably start by treating the lice they have with over the counter shampoos. These are most often not effective, which unfortunately, you'll immediately find out first hand. Lice have developed a resistance to these medicines. Also, these shampoos contain insecticides ( YUCK ), so be terribly careful to apply the shampoo in the advocated demeanour. Take care to have a look at the age constraints for these medicines as well ( they should not be used on children younger than 2 years of age ). NOTE: do not use shampoo or conditioner on the hair after the lice treatment.

Then, be certain to check the hair. If you continue to see head lice moving as vigorously as they'd been before the drugs was applied, I'm unhappy to say, it didn't work! At this point, most people visit your doctor to get a prescription lice treatment medication to kill the lice.

Once you've dumped the lice, you may need to retreat the child after 7 days to be sure any nits that may have hatched are finished too. Checking the hair every two days or so is an excellent idea to keep an eye fixed on things. NOTE: you should continue checking for about three weeks.

STEP 2: Treat the whole Family! Yup, it's that important.

Check each relation scrupulously for lice. Remember, lice are HUMAN parasites, so they can't live on pets. So yes, Fido is safe. It isn't important to treat your pets. If any family members are found with lice, treat them in the same manner that you treated the plagued kid ( see step one above ).

It's also crucial to remember the over the counter lice treatment medicines aren't to be used for folks with health constraints such as allergies or pregnancy. Lice are easily spread through human contact and so it is vital that each family member is examined and treated with a lice treatment – we do not need any re-infestations, do we? No we don't!

STEP 3: Now it is time to Treat The HOME!

Treating the house is equally as critical as treating each family member when you're combating lice. Take all clothing and bedding that have been influenced and wash them in really hot water, at least 130 degrees! Ouch – but it's's required to kill the small suckers.

All pillows and blankets that can not be washed should be either dry cleaned or put in plastic bags and sealed tightly. These bags should stay sealed for a fortnight, giving any live lice enough time to die. Vacuum your rugs and carpets thoroughly and frequently. It is also a good idea to vacuum any couches and chairs you'll have also.

Combating lice regularly feels like a never-ending battle. You will get discouraged and you will get irritated because it'll only take one louse to re-infect your home -just one pathetic louse!
